I am a Muslim woman and doing job in a university as a lecturer and I try to maintain Islamic manners & etiquette. Does Islam permit me to do such kind of job? Please help me.

Answer:
There is nothing wrong for you in working in a university as a lecturer as long as you are conscientious in following the Islamic ethics while performing your duties. In fact, Islamic history is full of women scholars who taught both men and women. Some of our great scholars such as Imam Shafi, Ibn Taymiyya, Ibn Hajar, etc., had among their teachers women scholars who taught them hadith sciences. So you need not feel any qualms about your job as a professor or lecturer as long as you remain true to your duties as a Muslim. Teaching is one of the best professions you can aspire for. The Prophet’s words are worth cherishing in this respect, “I have been sent as a teacher.” So feel proud of your profession, and cherish knowledge and imparting it; and seek rewards from Allah, while earning an honorable livelihood. I pray to Allah to bless you in your career and reward you tremendously-aameen.
