This is regarding the naming of one's child. If due to ignorance, we now feel the name given to our son is not right, it does not have the right meaning as per the Quran. We wish to change the name of our son now. He is 15 years old. Please advise if it is Ok to change now and how do we go about it?

Answer:

If you feel that the name you gave your child is not right, then you should definitely change it. We have precedents in the life of the Prophet, peace be upon him. He took direct initiative to change names of some of his companions, even though they were in their adult years. So it is a good idea to change the name, if the name does not sound right. You may set up an appointment with a lawyer; he/she will advise you how to go about it, and how long it takes. It is worth the effort. So do not delay it any longer. May Allah inspire us all to do what is right, and pleasing to Him.
