We humbly ask Allah to give us the grace to continue serving the Ummah with excellence, and we ask Him to make the path of knowledge easy and most beloved to His servants.

"Whomsoever Allah desires good for, He grants him an understanding of His religion" (Hadith)

The IIT reserves the right to cancel, postpone or modify a program advertised based on various factors such as weather, number of students registered or any other factor. We will endeavour to notify registered participants in advance of any such modifications. As a precaution, please check our website prior to attending any program to ensure that there is no change. The IIT cannot be held liable for any claims resulting from any such modifications or cancellations, or any damages or injuries resulting from your participation in any of our programs.

Understanding the course code
Most courses have a course code, which ends in a hyphen followed by a number. For example in ARAB100-3, the -3 denotes that this is a continuing course which has completed two semesters, and is now embarking on its third semester.

New students interested in joining a continuing course may do so following an assessment by the instructor. Please come to the continuing class you are interested in to meet the instructor and be assessed.

Youth Engagement & Development

The IIT is in the process of developing a comprehensive program for youth engagement and development. The program, to be developed in partnership with youth in our community will focus on all aspects of youth engagement - from recreation to leadership development.

New Arabic Language Café with native Arabic speakers
Studying the Arabic Language in the Western world has always been a challenge, primarily because of the lack of immersion in an environment where there is Arabic everywhere.

While we cannot replicate this environment, the Arabic Language Café is a novel concept for students of the language to engage in conversation with Native Arabic speakers in an informal environment.

Through conversation, mentoring, engagement with Arabic media, songs and lectures the student will be able to build proficiency in the language.

Prerequisite: A basic understanding of some Arabic is necessary to benefit from the sessions.

Free for students registered in any other IIT course(s), otherwise $10 per semester.

Are you a native Arabic speaker? If you would like an opportunity to facilitate a discussion with others who wish to learn to speak your language, please contact us and we will work with you to develop a unit for the language café.

Spiritual empowerment in Islam
Based on the classical work of Imam Ghazali

The Revival of the Religions Sciences (Ihya ulum al-din) is widely regarded as the greatest work of Muslim spirituality, and has, for centuries, been the most read work after the Qur’an in the Muslim world.

The Revival of the Religious Sciences is divided into four parts each containing ten chapters. The first part deals with knowledge and the requirements of faith—ritual purity, prayer, charity, fasting, pilgrimage, recitation of the Qur’an, etc.; part two concentrates mostly on people and society—the manners relating to eating, marriage, earning a living, friendship, etc.; parts three and four are dedicated to the inner life of the soul and discuss first the vices that people must overcome in themselves and then the virtues that they must strive to achieve.

[ FIQH203-2 ] Fiqh of Priorities
Fiqh of priorities is a crucial area of Islamic jurisprudence that deals with the hierarchical nature of Islamic values and principles; it helps us determine what is of primary nature which we ought to take into account while professing and practicing Islam, as opposed to what is secondary or less important. A true grasp of these values is essential for the revitalization of Islamic life at both the individual and collective levels. This study, it is hoped, will enable us to lead amore fulfilling and richer Islamic life.

[ HIST100-7 ] Great Lives - Part Seven: Great Companions
Allah says, "The pioneers - those who emigrated and those who (received them) and helped them (to get settled in their new home) - as well as those who follow them in all (good deeds), Allah is well pleased with them, and well pleased are they with Him…." (Qur'an: 9: 100).

There can be no greater honor than what Allah has thus bestowed on the Prophet's companions. They were the ones who learned Islam directly from the mouth of the Prophet, peace be upon him, followed his beautiful examples, and became instruments of guidance. In this course we choose to study some of the prominent companions, and narrate the stories of their struggles and sacrifices, which should serve as abiding sources of inspiration for all believers. Join us as we get to know the great Companions: the great Muslims. All are welcome!
